Utah’s Courts to Impose Furloughs

A statewide furlough is to be imposed on about 1,000 court system employees, according to a Deseret News article today.

In her annual State of the Judiciary speech on Monday, Chief Justice Christine M. Durham announced that all of the court’s approximately 1,000 employees may be forced to take unpaid leave for 26 days beginning in mid-February.

“This will mean that our employees will experience a 20 percent reduction in pay in every paycheck, and it also means that the courts will not be adequately staffed to perform our work,” she told a joint session of the Utah House and Senate.

This will have a significant impact on the operation of the courts in Utah.
